Bread not Bombs ... We Knead the Dough!

I am glad to be back in the UK after a great two week spell in America. There really is no place like home. As I had said in my previous blog, I went out there for ‘Spring Break’. Spent two weeks in sunny San Francisco and while I was there, also got to spend two whole days with the San Francisco Police Department. This was a particularly interesting weekend. One that I wouldn’t mind doing again ... if they will have me back. I wasn’t allowed to get directly involved in anything as I was there as an observer but it was still a great experience. I spent my first day with them observing inside the police station and the second day out with 2 officers in a patrol car. This day was not too different from policing in London, we answered pretty much the same type of calls and were even involved in a short pursuit through the city.
While in San Francisco, I was unable to catch any of the cricket world cup, until the final between India and Sri Lanka which I had to watch on the computer. And even then, I missed the best part of the game ... the very last ball when India needed 4 runs and hit a massive 6. This was the second time India had won the world cup (the last being in 1983) and was long overdue. Especially after their crushing defeat at the hands of Australia in 2003.
In other news, apparently there is a wedding happening on Friday next week (April 29th) and we all get a day off. I say all, I mean most of us. I have to work that day, not in the Enquiry Unit, but with the police. Apparently there is a LOT of merchandise available for this wedding. Everyone is trying to make money off it. TfL are even selling a ‘Will & Kate Oyster card!!’ I think this is rather pointless! Who will want to buy one??? Apparently they don’t want any fuss about their wedding, but it doesn’t seem like that. There seems to be a lot of money being spent on this wedding in a time of economical crisis. Funny that, how there is not enough money for public services but funds are available to shut off most of the City of Westminster. Anyway, I am told it will be a good day. Just hope it doesn’t rain ... I will be standing outside for quite a while, and don’t particularly fancy wearing a raincoat like the one pictured over my tunic (which I hope still fits!). Speaking of ‘what to wear’, what does one wear to a christening? Are jeans and t-shirt not acceptable?? My clearing team-leader Uzma, Commissioner of The Uzmapolitan Police is going to a christening next week and like most women is stressing about what to wear. I suggested jeans and t shirt, but that was met with a very disapproving look. What’s wrong with that? The girl in the picture looks perfectly ok. I have instead suggested a dress of some sort ... something like the one showed in the other picture. I don’t think she will go for it ... apparently ‘Next’ have a better, more appropriate selection. That’s the thanks I get for helping! One is not a happy bunny! Anyways, nuff of that. I am not one to hold a grudge.
In other news, uni is pretty much over for me this year. I don’t have any exams and except for two presentations, I don’t have to come in for anything next term. This has got to be the one of the longest summer holidays in the history of summer holidays! I will be spending most of my time doing extra police work. Recruitment has once again opened and I will have my application in by the end of next week. It is possible that this year will my last clearing session and if all goes well I will be a fully paid police officer within the next six months.
Anywhose, in closing I would like to leave you with a few news headlines that I came across and was amused by ...
